Volunteer Resident Attendant

Hope House of Sedona (HHOS) is a comprehensive housing program for women and children in the greater Sedona area. We believe that homelessness is often temporary and can be overcome through personal healing, educational support, housing, and employment opportunities.

The home accommodates up to 10 individuals in three private bedrooms with shared bathrooms, kitchen, laundry, and living areas, creating a communal living environment.

Position Overview 

This is a live-in volunteer position offered in exchange for free private housing and access to food. The Resident Security Attendant will reside in a private, furnished bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a bed, a mini fridge/freezer, a TV, shelving, and a personal safe. Although the hours listed above represent the standard schedule, please note that as a live-in team member at Hope House, you are expected to address and report and respond to major issues outside of these hours while onsite.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Night and weekend coverage (9 PM – 7 AM weeknights and Friday 9 PM - Monday 7 AM) to ensure household safety.
     

  • Report emergencies or conflicts immediately to the Executive Director and provide on-site assistance until help arrives (e.g., medical emergency, 911, Executive Director).
     

  • Monitor house rule compliance and communicate any issues or violations directly with residents and to the Executive Director.
     

  • Support residents with urgent issues (e.g., medical concerns, maintenance issues, evacuations, lockdowns).
     

Amenities & Benefits

  • A free private bedroom and en-suite bathroom are provided in exchange for volunteer services.
     

  • Optional meal program included: access to shared kitchen and food for self-prepared meals; participation in the household dinner cooking schedule is optional.
     

  • Outside employment allowed: The Security Attendant may work a full or part-time job outside of HHOS as long as it doesn’t interfere with required hours and responsibilities at HHOS.

  • Time off:1-3 nights off per month
     

 

Requirements

  • Must understand and be comfortable with communal living alongside women and children, many of whom have experienced multiple traumas.
     

  • Must complete all required training: Trauma-Informed Care, CPR/First Aid, Food Handlers, Overdose Prevention, and others (provided by HHOS).
     

  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
     

  • Must attend the following:
     

    • Weekly 1:1 check-in with Executive Director
       

    • Bi-monthly team meetings
       

    • Weekly house meetings
       

    • Occasional major events
       

  • Must follow all house rules (e.g., no drugs, alcohol, smoking, weapons, pets, or guests on site, etc.).
     

  • Social services experience is a plus.
     

  • Female applicants only, due to the population served and shared living arrangement.
     

  • This volunteer position is a one- year commitment with potential for renewal.

  • Retired people encouraged to apply.
